J.P. Smith, 83, of Waynesville, Ohio, formerly of Mulberry, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026, at Hillspring of Springboro. He was born May 21, 1942, in Middlesboro, Kentucky to Thomas B. and Mary Ruth (Fultz) Smith. He married Jarmila Kay Danner on June 2, 1962. She preceded him in passing on February 26, 2015.
JP was a graduate of Mulberry High School. He worked for Alcoa in Lafayette for 42 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and playing fast pitch softball. He was an avid sports fan and loved watching NASCAR, Purdue basketball, Dallas Cowboys football, and was a life-long Dodgers baseball. He also was instrumental in helping coach and run the Mulberry Little League Baseball.
J.P. is survived by his daughter, Brenda (Thomas) Stock of Waynesville, Ohio; daughter-in—law, Susan Smith; grandchildren, Jeff (Brittney) Smith, Charles (Ichraf) Smith, Kenton (Katelyn) Smith, Mollie (John) Tester, and Jacob (Jaime) Stock; and great grandchildren, Evelyn, Thomas and Gwendolyn and Smith, Maeve and Leon Smith, Liam and Teagan Cali, Grady Tester, and Evan Stock.
Along with his wife, J.P. was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Thomas E. Smith.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Day & Genda Funeral Home ~ Mulberry Chapel is assisting with the arrangements. He will be laid to rest at Fair Haven Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be left at www.dayandgenda.com.
