Juan “Poya” DeLeon, Jr. of Lubbock passed away on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 59. He was born in Lubbock to Juan and Bernada (Hernandez) DeLeon, Sr. Juan grew up in a home full of siblings and enjoyed being with his family. He found great joy in spending time with his dogs, especially Voodoo. They can be found every day at the dog park.
Juan attended Estacado High School, and recently under the care of Dialysis Center of Lubbock. Juan enjoyed living a simple life with the love and support he received from family/friends stopping by to visit or bringing him home made plates of food or uber eats. Juan loved getting care packages from Amazon/Walmart. He thought it was the best thing in the world to have things delivered to him weekly. Juan could be seen all over the East Side of Lubbock driving his dad’s white truck with his partner Voodoo. He will be deeply missed, but the memories he created will forever be a source of comfort and impact to all who knew him.
Those left to cherish his memory are siblings, Frank H. DeLeon, JoAnn H. DeLeon, and Sandra DeLeon with partner Daniel Smith, all of Lubbock, and Lisa DeLeon Tan and husband Lee of New Jersey. He also leaves behind several nephews and nieces, especially one that had a huge bond with him, Lance DeLeon Flores.
Juan was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Merejildo H. DeLeon, Elizabeth H. DeLeon, Samuel H. DeLeon, and Katy H. DeLeon; and nephew, Kevin DeLeon Flores.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at Combest Family Memorial Chapel, 2210 Broadway, Lubbock, Texas. Inurnment at the City of Lubbock Cemetery will follow.
