Juan De La Cruz Ramírez, 82, of Port Lavaca, Texas passed away September 11, 2025. He was born November 25, 1942 in Port Lavaca to Ysidoro and Marcela Ramírez.

He was a talented artist and avid fisherman.

Juan enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 18 in Dec 1960. He completed Basic Training at Fort Hood, TX with the 1st Batallion 67th Armor Regiment.

He went on to Fort Gordon, GA for Advanced Individual Training in Mar 1961.

He was trained as a Cable Systems Installer-Maintainer at Holloman AFB, NM in May 1961.

At the age of 19, Juan was then stationed in Korea from Oct 1961 - Dec 1962 with the 51st Signal Batallion.

He went on to Fort Gordon, GA with the 206th Signal Corp 3rd Division in Jan 1963.

Juan was stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army Europe Command in Jul 1965. He met his brother Guadalupe who was also stationed in Germany on several occasions. Here, Juan told his brother he was volunteering to serve in Vietnam so his brother could stay in Germany.

In Aug 1966 he went on to Fort Eustis VA with the 714th Transportation Brigade.

At the age of 25 from Jul 1967 to Jul 1968, Juan served in Vietnam with the 9th Signal Batallion 9th Infantry Division.

Aug 1968 he was stationed at Fort Bragg NC with the 165th Signal Corp.

Apr 1971 saw Juan stationed at Fort Hood with the 141st Signal Batallion.

He was honorably discharged in 1971 with the rank of sergaent with B Company 142nd Signal Batallion 2nd Armored Division at Fort Bragg.

Juan recieved the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Star.

He is survived by daughters Rosalinda Ramírez & Marie Ramírez Sullivan (Robbie), sibling Guadalupe Ysidoro Ramírez (Yolanda), and cousins Epifanio Garza, Daniel Garza, José Garza, Alfredo Garza, Rita Garza, and Margaret Garza who he grew up with in the "Casa Grande" in Bloomington, TX, along with grand kids and great grand kids.

He was preceded in death by his parents Ysidoro and Marcela Ramírez, wife Kathie Ramírez and cousin Maria Garza.

A memorial service will be held Friday, October 3, 2025 at Angel Lucy's Funeral Home, 706 E. Crestwood Dr. Victoria, TX 77901

8am to 9am private family visitation followed by public visitation from 9am to 10am. Military honors will begin at 10am followed by a rosary.
