Juanice Nell Evans, a treasured educator, devoted family matriarch, and faithful servant of her community, left this world peacefully on December 31, 2025, at Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, at the age of 89. Born on June 29, 1936, in a wagon under a tree outside of quaint town of
Mobeetie, Texas, Juanice's journey was one marked by love, adventure, and unwavering faith.
A graduate with a Bachelor's degree, Juanice dedicated her life to enlightening young minds as a math teacher. For twenty-eight years, she shared her passion for mathematics with the students of Monte Vista schools and spent two additional years educating in Texas. Her door and heart were always open for students in need, often tutoring many without any expectation of payment. Juanice's love for teaching extended into every aspect of her life, inspiring all who knew her.
Juanice's home was a sanctuary of warmth and hospitality; her table, a haven where no visitor left unfed or without tasting her famed pies and cookies. Her house, meticulously kept, was as inviting as her spirit, housing not only her beloved family but also the Valley Christian Fellowship, reflecting her deep-rooted Christian values.
Family was the cornerstone of Juanice's existence. She is survived by her loving children: son Billy (Charlotte) Evans of Monte Vista, daughter Joy DiCamillo of Alamosa, and son John Walter (Cheryl) Evans of Gypsum, CO. Her legacy flourishes through her only grandson Joseph Perry (Jenny) DiCamillo of Alamosa, granddaughter Ashlee (Davis) Hirschfeld of Aurora, granddaughter Cheryl Juanice Evans and Wayne Sullivan, and her cherished great-grandchildren Perry, Gracie, Alden, Henry, and Isabella DiCamillo. She also leaves behind her brother Edwin (Carmelita) Sims, alongside numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Juanice reunites with her loving husband Billy Walter Evans, her parents, and brother Onie Sims, who all preceded her in death.
An advocate for the mental gymnastics of problem-solving, Juanice found joy in jigsaw puzzles and Sudoko, often engaging anyone willing to partake. She also delighted in making her famous "Niece" blankets for all the new babies that joined her circle of family and friends. Her adventurous spirit shone bright, from family Christmases, surrounded by twinkling lights and cherished kin, to the spontaneous escapades that she was always willing to be a part of. Juanice's profound love extended beyond her immediate kin, as she was a mother figure, mentor, and friend to many.
Known as loving, adventurous, and faith-filled, Juanice's indelible impact is imprinted on the hearts of those she touched. Her departure from this earthly realm leaves a void in the lives of her family and community, yet her spirit lives on in the countless moments of joy, lessons taught, and the unwavering faith she instilled in us all. Juanice Nell Evans will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always cherished.
