Juanita Hafer Obituary

Juanita Joan Hafer, of Winchester, born July 9, 1929, passed away on January 3, 2024, at 94, in Lynn Care Center while under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice, Front Royal. She was the only child of Hazel O'Neal and Frederick Franklin Stickley. She is predeceased by her husband, Darrell E. Hafer.

"Joan" as she liked to be called, lived a life of many realized dreams from a young age and had a passion for music. She and her fellow musicians bonded for life and shared their best selves in musical gatherings. Joan was a Fender representative for over 17 years - an excellent guitarist and bass player. Until her health started to decline, Joan was always out and lively. She was intensely private which frustrated many of us, but she was also known as a singular personality and highly opinionated. There won't be another like her.

"The Song is Ended (but the melody lingers on)."

Juanita and I grew up as neighbors near Waterlick. It was there where we attended six years of Elementary School; seventh grade at Otterburn Elementary School and five years in Warren County High School. We participated in many school activities where she provided the transportation since I did not have a vehicle to drive. After graduation from High School we went our separate ways with hers being music. I have fond memories of our time together.
