Juanita Stratton Hatchett, age 96, of Winchester, TN passed away at her home at Franklin Manor, Monday, May 6, 2024. She was born January 11, 1928, to the late Charles Fred Stratton, Sr. and Flora Estelle Stratton of the Falls Mill community where she was raised. In addition to her parents, she's preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Hatchett, and three brothers: Charles Fred Stratton, Jr., John Edward Stratton, and James Felix Stratton.
Juanita is survived by her only child, Melinda Hatchett Huffman (Oren) of Winchester, her only grandchild, Wesley Oren Huffman (Kristen) of Franklin, TN and their son and Juanita's only great grandchild, Kellan Oren Huffman, and several nieces and nephews.
She was baptized into Christ at the Salem Church of Christ as a young teen and graduated from Huntland High School, where she played the bass drum in the band. She first worked as a secretary for Moore's Funeral Home in Winchester in the late 1940's and as the office manager for Avalon Dairy in Winchester in the 60's and 70's, from which she retired at the age of 50.
Juanita was a long-time, faithful member of the Decherd Church of Christ and was very active in the Decherd Lions' Club. She was an avid student of the Old Testament and knew much about the genealogies of God's people as well as histories of Bible nations.
A grower of beautiful lilies of all types, Juanita was also an excellent seamstress and cook, working to perfection in everything she undertook. She was a high-profile bowler in her 40's, winning tournaments and championships.
Her work ethic was strong and her kindness to others unmatched. Never one to complain, Juanita steadily moved forward in spite of her heart failure which was diagnosed in 2016.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held Friday, May 10 at 2pm at the Mt. Garner Cemetery, Main Street in Decherd, TN. Watson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Winchester Christian Academy or the Franklin County Christian Memorial Foundation, 1230 South College Street, P.O. Box 715, Winchester, TN 37398 or give online at www.winchesterchristianacademy.org
