JUANITA IRENE McCANTS LANG was called home to be with the Lord January 3, 2025 at Ohio State East Hospital. She was born on November 23, 1933 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Leslie and Irene McCants. She grew up attending Martin Luther Lutheran Church. She graduated from Central High School and 20th Century Business College. She was employed at the A.F. Owens Elementary School. She moved to Columbus, Ohio in 1963. She was employed by the Ohio State University, Residence and Dining Halls, from 1963-88. After retiring, she began doing more volunteer work helping senior adults enjoy life. She cared for a family of six and was nominated for Caregiver of the Year Award in 1994. She volunteered at the Neighborhood House Food Pantry for 14 years. She was awarded the Bronze Award as Volunteer of the Year by Medical Mutual of Ohio in 2007.
Juanita had an unwavering love for God, family, friends, and her church family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and loved by all. As a dedicated member of the Church of the Living God for more than 20 years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent of the Local and District for 16 years. She was a Missionary and a member of the Ohio Clergy Women. She later became a member of New Haven Church where she continued teaching Sunday School providing workshops and training teachers. She served as a member of the Ministerial Prayer Team.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Irene McCants, brothers Leslie McCants, Jr. Don McCants, and Milton McCants and sister Alfreda McCants. She leaves to cherish her memory, a devoted daughter, Josselyn Bennett of Columbus, OH, granddaughter Kai (Preston) Peters of Lewis Center, OH, grandson Jason (Kizzie) Bennett of Elgin, IL, great-grandchildren Lucy Parkinson-Bennett, Zuleika (Christian) Spears, Ahmana Peters, Siraj Peters, Sallie Peters, and Bailey Peters, sisters Dorothy Halsell of Dayton, OH, and Jacqueline (Ranson) Pringle of Mongomery, OH, sister-in-law Deloris McCants of Mobile, AL, and Bernice McCants of California. A host of nieces/nephews, grandnieces/nephews, cousins, many wonderful friends, and the New Haven Church Family.
Visitation with the family will be held from 11-12 noon, Friday, January 17, 2025 at St. Philip Lutheran Church, 1506 East Long Street, where the celebration of life will follow at 12:00 noon, with Bishop Gaius Griffea Officiating, Interment at the Garden Mausoleum, Green Lawn Cemetery. COOK & SON - PALLAY FUNERAL HOME serving the family.
