ASHTABULA - Juanita (Ratliff) Newman, 75, died on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at Saybrook Landing Nursing Home.
Born April 20, 1950 in Chillicothe, Ohio, she was the daughter of Estill and Mary (Slone) Ratliff.
Before retiring, she dedicated her life to caring for others as a home health aide, working at Eastwood Residential, in private homes, and as a nurse's aide at the Ashtabula County Nursing Home. Earlier in her career, she was employed at Rockwell Plastics and Channels Factory, and she also served as the cook at Juan's Labor Camp in Geneva. An amazing cook, she especially loved to feed her family members. A longtime member of the Church of the Living God, she loved the Lord and gospel music. Juanita loved to go shopping at Thrift stores and yard sales.
Juanita is survived by her daughter, Penny Sanchez of Ashtabula; her son Waylande (Julia Sherman) Sanchez of Smithville; her stepchildren, Juana Rivera, Ana Sanchez, Juan Sanchez Jr., and Betty DiMare; her grandchildren, Willy Sanchez Jr. of Geneva and Stephanie Sanchez of Florida; her sisters, Phyllis (Jimmy) Torrance of Ashtabula and Patsy (Wayne) Hammond of Chillicothe; and her brother, Donald (Sherry) Ratliff of Kentucky.
Aside from her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Flinchum, Emma Jean Candela, and Barabara Rood; and her stepdaughter, Jenna Vance.
Visitation will be from 10AM-11AM with a service to be held at 11AM on Monday, June 9, 2025 at Zaback-Williams-Ducro Funeral Home 500 W. Prospect Rd., Ashtabula, OH. The Rev. Robert H. Falke, Pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Saybrook Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Living God, 1030 Bunker Hill Road, Ashtabula, OH 44004.
