Judith Stone Auman passed away peacefully in the morning on June 3, 2024. Judy was born May 9, 1945 at Mary Elizabeth Hospital in Raleigh, NC to Annie Belle Beasley Stone and Leonard I. Stone. She was a 1963 graduate of Garner High School and attended High Point University where she was a member of Phi Mu Fraternity, The Order of the Lighted Lamp and was president of Panhellenic. She received a BA, Cum Laude, from Christopher Newport University.
As a stay-at-home mother, Judy volunteered often, including teaching music at the boys' private school in Charleston, serving as President of the Oak Leaf Wives, and President of the Western Branch (Chesapeake) PTA. For her service, she was awarded a Life Membership in the Virginia Congress of Parents and Teachers.
After moving back to NC to be closer to her parents and her grown children, Judy worked at the North Carolina Child Advocacy Institute and the North Carolina Psychiatric Association. Along with administrative duties, she worked as a Special Events Director.
Judy loved to sing and became a member of the church choirs in Portsmouth, VA, Charleston, SC, Chesapeake, VA, Cary NC, and Durham, NC. She also performed with the groups The Plantation Singers (Charleston) and The Back Porch String Band (Cary). Judy loved her family, her friends, her church, McMannen UMC, reading, playing the piano, and solving word puzzles.
Judy is survived by her two sons, Jon Richard Auman and his wife Laurie of London, England and James Todd Auman, Ph.D., and his wife Jenny, of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren, Bala Timothy Auman and his wife Savannah of Greensboro, NC, Subhadra Auman of Cambridge, England, Hanuman Tyson Auman of Hillsborough, NC, Samantha Dacey Auman and Eric Stone Auman of Durham, NC and Shyama Grace Auman and Kirtan Auman of London, England. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Jerry Leonard Stone, Ph.D.
Services will be held at 3:00 pm at McMannen United Methodist Church in Durham, NC on Saturday, June 8. Burial services will be held at 12:00 pm Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC on Tuesday, June 11.
