Judith Benson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Powell Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Searcy on Mar. 18, 2026.
Judith Ann Benson April 23, 1944 – March 13, 2026

Judith Ann Benson, a beloved sister, aunt, and friend, passed away on March 13, 2026, at the age of 81. Judith (Judy) lived a life marked by service, leadership, and deep connections with family and community.

Born on April 23, 1944, to James Russell Benson and Mary Alleen Walker Benson. Judy grew up with strong values that guided her throughout her life. She graduated from Monticello High School in 1962 and went on to attend Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and graduated in 1966.

Judy devoted her professional life to helping others. She began her career as a teacher with the Hampton School District in Hampton, Arkansas, before transitioning to Arkansas Social Services, where she served as a caseworker, county director, and field supervisor supporting multiple counties. In 1973, she continued her career with the Social Security Administration, with roles that took her to New Orleans, Camden, El Dorado, and West Memphis. After more than 30 years of dedicated service, she retired in July 2004.

Outside of her professional life, Judy was deeply involved in her community. She was an active member of Camden Business and Professional Women for many years and proudly served as its president. Her commitment to mentorship and leadership extended to her work with the Girl Scouts of Conifer Council., where she first served as a troop leader, and later as a member of the Conifer Council Board of Directors where she served 10 years the last six as President, leaving a lasting impact on countless young women.

Judy had a creative spirit and a love for life's simple joys. She was a talented seamstress and quilter, and she enjoyed traveling and sharing her experiences with others. She was also a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Searcy, where her faith and fellowship were important parts of her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Frankie Carrington and Mary Newberry.

Judy is survived by her brother, James Russell Benson Jr.; her sisters, Mattie Seward (David) and Jeanne Farris; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Searcy on March 27 at 3:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at Whitefield Cemetery in Ogemaw, Arkansas (Ouachita County) on Saturday, March 28 at 2:00 p.m.
