Judith Freese Obituary

Obituary
Judith Ann Freese of Cumming, Georgia, passed away on April 23, 2023.
She was born April 10, 1939, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to the late Arthur and Dorothy Hill.
Judith is survived by her daughter Stacey Allen, and son David (Darcy) Freese; she is also survived by four grandchildren: Sarah and Henry Freese and Cullen and Chloe Allen.
After serving as a "candy striper", a volunteer nurse's aide, during high school, Judy enrolled in the University of Nebraska School of Nursing. After graduating in 1961 as a Registered Nurse and marrying the late William J. "Jack" Freese, Judy became a mother and began her 40 year nursing career. After short stays in Kansas, St. Louis and Houston, Judy and Jack settled in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Between driving kids to the beach and other motherly duties, she worked the afternoon shift at a busy public hospital emergency room. She also trekked in her VW bug with her young children from south Florida to the mountains of North Georgia where she worked as the camp nurse at Camp Cherokee.
After Jack and Judy divorced in 1973, Judy packed up the house, the children and the dog and moved to the northern suburbs of Atlanta. After working at Piedmont hospital, Judy took on a new challenge. She moved her family to Cedartown, Georgia where she took a position as the high school occupational health sciences teacher. In that position, she trained young women and men for careers in the health care field. She was especially proud of meeting a former student years later who had become an RN.
But her true love was nursing so she moved back to Atlanta in 1984 to work in a big city hospital. She worked at Northside hospital as a clinical supervisor on the neurological floor until her retirement in 2004. She enjoyed taking care of her granddaughter Chloe and travelling but nursing called again. In 2007, Northside recruited her and other recently retired nurses to staff an office that advised people who were about to have surgery. Ten years later, Judy retired again. Besides traveling the world with her daughter Stacey, she had one more service to perform. Judy became trained as a CASA caseworker. She was only able to
work on one case before her terminal illness struck, but she was very thankful that she was able to help those little children through to their adoption.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Boys and Girls Town of Nebraska at support.boystown.org.
Being adopted as an infant, this charity was very dear to Judy's heart.
Judy's funeral service will be May 6, 2023 at 4pm at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit at 724 Pilgrim Mill Road, Cumming, GA 30040. Condolences may be expressed at www.mcdonaldandson.com. Arrangements by McDonald and Son Funeral Home, 150 Sawnee Drive, Cumming, GA 30040 (770) 886.9899
