Judith Gereau Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Skradski Family Funeral Home - Escanaba on Nov. 21, 2024.
Judith Joan Gereau, 78, of Escanaba, Michigan, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on November 20, 2024. Her life was a testament to love, devotion, and creativity, leaving behind a legacy cherished by all who knew her.
Judith was a dedicated wife of David Gereau for 55 years and a devoted mother to Laurie (Mark) Whorley and Michael (Kathleen) Gereau. She found immense joy as a grandmother to her cherished grandson, Gabriel. Judith was especially proud of being a homemaker, devoting her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family. She took great pride in being present for Laurie and Michael as they grew up, fostering their values, faith, and passions.
A graduate of Holy Name High School, Judith embraced life with faith and compassion, rooted in her strong Catholic values. Professionally, she worked as a bookkeeper for Miller Beverage and served as a church organist at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Escanaba, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Bark River, and Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. Her musical talents enriched the lives of many in her community.
Committed to civic service, Judith was the county president of both Extension Homemakers of Delta County and Family Community Education. She also served as a trustee on the Wells Township Board and as an election worker, showing her dedication to her community. Judith filled her schedule with volunteer activities and local clubs, where she was known for her generosity and infectious smile.
Judith's creativity shone through her hobbies, including painting and crafting, which filled her home with beauty. She also loved playing bridge and hosting lively card games with David, family, and friends. She also enjoyed Sunday drives after church with David.
Judith is survived by her loving husband, David; her children, Laurie (Mark) Whorley and Michael (Kathleen) Gereau; her grandson, Gabriel; her sister, Pam (Roger) Zell; nephews, Jason (Sauna) and Brian (Cassie); and great-nephews, Montgomery and Edison. She also leaves behind dear friends Doris and Richard Newhouse, and Kathy and David Couchene. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alice and Lucian, her uncle Ralph, and her sister Amelia.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judith's memory can be made to the Delta County Humane Society, 6975 County Road 426 M 5, Escanaba, MI 49829.
The Gereau family would like to extend blessings and thanks to the caregivers through OSF Hospice who helped provide exceptional care: Kerry RN, Melissa RN, Megan CNA, and Eric MSW.
Judith will be remembered for her faith in God, her dedication to family, and the joy she brought to everyone she met. Her memory will forever be a blessing.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 2 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. The Rosary will be recited at 11:40 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12:00 PM with Fr. Sebastian Chacko officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Judith will be laid to rest in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery.

We will miss our dear friend. We learned to square dance with David and Judith almost 50 years ago and have been close friends ever since. I will always remember her beautiful smile, her kindness, her talents and her love of family. Rest easy, my friend.
