Judith "Judy" Ann Haughton Erxleben, 82 of
Montrose, IA passed away Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Montrose Health Center.
She was born August 1, 1943 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the daughter of Chester Ray and Helen Ann Osborn Haughton. She grew up in Pecatonica, Illinois where she graduated from Pecatonica High School with the Class of 1961. Following graduation, Judy pursued her passion for helping others by enrolling in the nursing program at Rockford Memorial Hospital where she earned her nursing degree.
On September 12, 1964, she was united in marriage to David Walter Erxleben at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Rockford, Illinois. He survives.
She was the proud mother of five children, nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-grandchild: Nathan David Erxleben of
Keokuk, Iowa; Jared Andrew Erxleben (Julia Levit) of Chicago; Jeremy Aaron Erxleben (Marlene Lopez), Jaylen Luna Erxleben Lopez (9), Mayela Sol Erxleben Lopez (6), Jace Sky Erxleben Lopez (3) of Gurabo, Puerto Rico; Seth Asher Haughton Erxleben (Jessica), Madilyn Paige Erxleben (26), River Erxleben-Garber (6), Rocky Erxleben-Garber (3), and Olive Erxleben-Garber (1) of Portland, Oregon, Maya LeeAnn Erxleben (25), Kade Asher Erxleben (18) of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Abigail Ann Erxleben-Simon (Marcel Simon), Izabell Ann McDonald (19), Ian William McDonald (18), Ilyse Ann Erxleben-Simon (9), and Reese Alexander Rucker-Simon (26) of
Montrose, Iowa. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Patricia Ray Determan (Bill) of Pecatonica, Illinois; John Haughton (Judy) of Dover, Delaware; Tom Haughton (Sally) of Pecatonica, Illinois; Gail Haughton (Bill Nelson) of Pecatonica, Illinois; Jay Haughton (Suzie) of Pecatonica, Illinois; and Nancy Heckman (Scott) of Pecatonica, Illinois, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents.
She was a dedicated member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Montrose. Judy's faith guided her throughout her life.
Judy's nursing career spanned many years at Graham Hospital and later at Keokuk Area Hospital where she cared for patients in several departments including oncology and ambulatory surgery. She had a natural gift for nurturing and compassion. Her gentleness comforted countless people through both her work and her personal life. She was also active in the American Cancer Society, giving her time to support others facing difficult journeys.
At home, Judy loved to bake and cook, filling her kitchen with delicious smells. Her greatest joy came from time spent with her family, sharing meals, laughter, and love. Judy was a dedicated grandmother who doted on her grandchildren, making special memories such as having tea parties with them.
Judy will be remembered as witty, gregarious, and sociable. She was a profoundly kind and generous woman. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends alike.
A memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, November 5th, 10:30 AM, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses 929 Main St, Montrose IA 52639.
