Judith Louise Helzer

Lifelong Alaska resident, Judith (Judy) Helzer entered into eternal life on January 28, 2026. Born in Anchorage, Alaska on June 4, 1951, Judy was one of Madeleine and Vernon Hickel's 17 children. After graduating from West Anchorage High School, Judy received her Liberal Arts degree from Highline College, Federal Way, Washington and became a flight attendant for Northwest Airlines. She married Eric Helzer in 1973 and while having ten children was also an active member of her community. Judy fostered the Catholic faith as a member of multiple organizations including as a founding member of Holy Rosary Academy. She served as a member and Chair of the Anchorage Sister Cities Commission and Winter Cities Commission. Throughout her life, Judy traveled the world, visiting places such as Canada, Mexico, Japan, China, Denmark, Norway, France, Italy, Portugal, and Egypt. She made pilgrimages to Lourdes, Fatima, Rome, and the Holy Land. She was at the center of her family's lives, keeping the focus on what really matters in life, offering love, comfort, and a deep-rooted faith, with her eyes always on Heaven as the final goal. She had a gentle way of making everyone feel welcomed in her home and at the dinner table. But what she loved most was God and spending time with her family, We will miss her tremendously but find comfort in keeping her memories always in our hearts and knowing that she did the work she was called to do in this life.

Judy is preceded in death by her son, David and grandchild, Eliot. She is survived by her husband, Eric and 9 other children: Joseph Helzer (Anne), Angela Wyne (Mike), Anne Haywas (Luke), Thomas Helzer (Emily), Emilie Fulchino (John), Matthew Helzer (Sarah), Anthony Helzer (Brittany), Robert Helzer (Mariam), Andrew Helzer (Shannon) and their 24 grandchildren. Visitation and Rosary will take place at Holy Family Parish in Anchorage, Alaska on Friday, February 13, 2026 at 1:30pm, followed by a Funeral Mass at 2pm.
