Judith Ann Johnson, age 80, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on September 5, 2024, in her hometown of Independence, Kansas. Born on September 21, 1943, Judy lived a life full of kindness and love, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Judy was raised in Independence, Kansas where she graduated high school. On February 7, 1963, she married Lewis Johnson. They made their home in Independence and soon started a family having 5 children: Stacy, Steve, Mark, Billy, and Shelly. Judy and Lewis were married for 61 years.

She devoted many years of her life to her career at Standard Motors, where she exemplified hard work and commitment. Everyone who knew her admired not only her dedication but also her loyalty and love for her family and friends. She was respected and cherished by those around her and will be missed immensely.

Judy believed that the greatest lessons in life come from the heart. This philosophy was expressed in her relationships with her children, whom she loved more than anything in the world. Judy’s role as a mother was matched only by her incredible devotion to her fourteen grandchildren and her thirteen great-grandchildren. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and she reveled in sharing moments of joy and laughter with them, creating a legacy of love that will endure through generations.

A member of Tyro Church, Judy found great joy and fulfillment in her faith. Sunday mornings were special days for her. She watched her favorite church sermons and shared with all who she loved. She loved the late Billy Graham and his messages. Additionally, she cherished the simple pleasures of life, finding joy in watching her favorite shows, “Wheel of Fortune,” “The Price is Right,” and “Law and Order.” These moments brought laughter and joy to her days.

In her passing, Judy is reunited with her beloved parents, Vernon and Louise Shaffer, and her cherished son, Mark Johnson, her brother Vernon Shaffer and her sisters Betty Lea and Janice Golden.

Judy is survived by her husband, Lewis, daughters Stacy Banion and partner John, and Shelly Charter; sons Steve Johnson and wife Tammy, Billy Johnson and wife Melissa; sister at heart Betty Kinsey; fourteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one on the way, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas, on September 10, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, and the Funeral Service will take place the following day, September 11, 2024, at 10:00 AM at Potts Chapel with graveside immediately to follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas. Following graveside service there will be a dinner at the 4H Building.
