Judith Ann MacNerland, age 80, passed away on January 20, 2024, after contracting Covid while on vacation in Hawaii.
Born on June 30th, 1943, in Princeton, IN to Ruth and Eugene Shelton, Judy was the eldest of four children. After graduating high school, she went on to attend Ray Vogue Art School before marrying her husband, John Dale (Jack) MacNerland, and beginning a family. Judy and her husband eventually settled in West Chicago, where she participated in many community organizations including Eastern Star and the First United Methodist Church.
Judy was a stay-at-home parent, and later a school health aid at Pioneer elementary school in West Chicago. She also continued to pursue her artistic talents over the years, focusing on portraiture and calligraphy.
Judy is survived by her two children, Paul MacNerland and Sarah (Tal Barak) MacNerland-Barak; 5 grandchildren, Doug (Asela) MacNerland, Ben, Emma, James, and Bram Barak; her sister-in-law Nadine MacNerland Buck; her sister Marilyn, her brother Sam; her niece, Kimberly; and a companion, George.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Tim, and her husband Jack MacNerland.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Norris-Segert Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago (One block north of Washington St. & Main St). Funeral services on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Avani Christian officiating. Interment to follow at Glen Oak Cemetery in West Chicago.
