Judith Marsan Obituary
SOUTH HAMILTON, MA – Mrs. Judith Gail (Wellman) Marsan, 84 of South Hamilton, formerly of Reading, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025 at Putnam Farm Assisted Living in Danvers with her devoted family by her side.
Born in Watertown, Massachusetts, Judith was the beloved wife of the late Robert Arthur Marsan, and the daughter of the late George Burton and Helen (Elmer) Wellman. Judith was raised and educated in Watertown, graduating from Watertown High School in 1958 and continuing her education at Burdett College in Boston.
Judy and Bob spent most of their married life in Reading, where they raised their family and where Judy would reside happily for over 50 years. Together they created a loving, nurturing home for their three children where every night was a sit down dinner and every weekend a chance to welcome relatives to a backyard barbecue or a holiday celebration. During the summer, she was the neighborhood life guard for their above-ground pool and was quick to pack the car with all and sundry for a day at Wingaersheek beach. An annual summer trip to Nantucket to visit her brother's family was a cherished tradition that formed life-long memories for both families and fostered a special relationship with her nieces Lisa, Laurel and Linda.
With her children grown, Judy made use of her early training at Burdett to return to work as an assistant to the real estate buyer for the former Lechmere Sales and later as an administrative assistant for the UTM Corporation. On weekends, she loved nothing more than long, meandering rides with Bob throughout New England in search of the perfect ice cream cone or a romantic dinner spot – a ritual that remained a joyful part of their lives for decades.
Following Robert's passing in 2005, Judy embraced her independence with bravery and grace. She sought out new connections, spending time with her work colleagues and lifelong friends. Judy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether that was maintaining her home, getting lost in a good mystery novel, or trading Sunday dinner invitations with her son and daughter-in-law. Recently, she had to call upon those same qualities of bravery and grace to accept the passing of her beloved youngest son Derek, who lost his battle with ALS in 2024.
Judy's effervescent smile and uncanny ability to look great whenever her picture was taken will never be forgotten. Her love for family was unmatched and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her son, David Marsan and his wife, Janet Barnes of South Hamilton; her daughter, Lea Ann Marsan of Phoenix, AZ; her brother, Robert Wellman and his wife, Nancy of Williamsburg, VA; and her brother-in-law, Jerry Marsan and his wife, Janice of Hingham.
