Judith Benway Mills

1951 - 2026

Judith Benway Mills, 74, of Ninety Six, SC, beloved wife of Norman Mills, passed away

unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at her home.

Born September 5, 1951, in Springfield, Vermont, she was the oldest daughter of Bertha

Wheatley Benway and the late Ernest Benway of Chester, VT. A 1969 graduate of Chester High

School, Judi earned an associate's degree in Early Childhood Education and built a career in

banking, retiring as a Mortgage Originator from Brattleboro Savings and Loan. She was an

active member of Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Brattleboro and later Saint Bernard

Catholic Church in Keene, NH. After retirement, she and her husband settled in Greenwood,

SC, where they built their dream home overlooking Lake Greenwood.

Judi had a generous spirit and a servant's heart. She volunteered with hospice in New

Hampshire and later worked at the Hospice of the Piedmont Resale Store. A talented singer and

pianist, avid reader, and puzzle enthusiast, she cherished time with her family above all else.

She often said her greatest joy was being a mother and grandmother.

In addition to her husband of 33 years, she is survived by her daughters, Amber Taylor of

Greenwood and Bethany Schneider (Eddie) of Apex, NC; her sister, Cindy Kehoe (Bob);

brothers, Jeff Benway and Stuart Benway; four grandchildren, Olivia Schaffer (Andrew),

Charlotte Taylor, Harrison Schneider, and Bennett Schneider; one great-grandson, Callen

Schaffer; and several nieces and nephews.

A casual open house celebrating Judi's life will be held Saturday, February 21, from 2-4 PM at

the Mills residence, 126 Mitchum Drive, Ninety Six, SC.

Her ashes will be laid to rest this spring at the Benway family plot in Chester, VT. Memorials may

be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont. Blyth Funeral Home & Cremation

Services is assisting the family.
