Judith Murphy Obituary

Judith (DePaul) Murphy, 79, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Sunday. She was a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area. Judith attended Eastwood High School and St. John's the Evangelist High School and graduated from Continental School of Beauty. She worked for many years as a beautician.
Judith was known as the queen of the family and the glue that held everyone together. Strong-willed and outspoken, she was never afraid to share her unfiltered opinions, always delivered with honesty and heart. She had a gift for helping people through their most vulnerable times, and she never met a stranger. She volunteered her time with the CNY Jazz and Arts Foundation and the Italian Fest, giving back to the community. Judith cherished family reunions at Sylvan Beach, and she was a devoted fan of Atlas. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Judith was predeceased by her parents, Alfred and Genevieve DePaul.
Survivors include her loving husband of 51 years, Robert Murphy; sons, Joseph Murphy and Nicholas (Jill) Murphy; brothers, Dave (Karen) DePaul and Jeff (Diane) DePaul; granddaughter, Juliana Sculco; nephews, James and Dan DePaul; and niece, Lauryn DePaul.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, January 19th, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at FARONE & SON, Inc. Funeral Home, 4899 W. Taft Rd., Liverpool. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 20th, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St., Syracuse.
Contributions may be made to CNY Jazz Arts Foundation, 441 E. Washington St., Syracuse, NY 13202 or cnyjazz.org/donate.

I met Judy when I worked in high school at Dey brothers. We became friends after she talked to me at my counter. We remained friends thru out the years She wanted to buy her mom a jacket for her bday and I got my discount for her. We had mutual friends thru out the years. She even had holiday dinners at my mom´s house. Then in later years our kids were in school together. When John went to gulf war she spent time at my house. Tried to get her out for breakfast in later years but she said it was too early. We spoke on phone for long periods. She loved talking about her boys and how good they were to her. So sorry Judy you´ve passed on but to no pain. Hope you see my Amy in heaven. Much love to your family

My cousin ' Jude.' My mom's youngest sister's daughter.
A Saturno
A DePaul

Jude was a pistol, controversial at times It's going to be very quiet with her gone .

Some specific memories come to mind as I think of her this morning.

She taught me some great dance steps to the tune "He's So Fine"
(It's that "doo da lang dood a lang "tune) It took awhile

She gave me my first reeeeeally short hair cut just before my wedding. (Never thought about how that was going to challenge getting my already made headpiece/veil to stay on)- but she did a great job! Best short hair cutter on the planet. ("Scissors over comb!)

We loved the same music. We sat outside of Jazz Central one summer evening ,in the car, after the NE Jazz & Wine Festival. The jam was about to start inside but we couldn't leave and go in before we listened and sang to Al Green's "Let's Stay Together" . As I recall, one of the national performing artists gracing the jam came out, heard us and joined in. It's was great and a great memory

We all have our many faults and Jude had a few too but her kindnesses cannot be overlooked or forgotten.
She attended to many family who passed, doing the hair of aunts- and others I don't know about probably- so that they looked their very best.

And yep...she was beautiful.

So we'll stay together, Jude, whenever there is great soul or jazz... playin.

My mom, Teresa Madonna Fricano, was Judy's cousin. Mom moved to VA to live with me in 2010. I was lucky enough then to reconnect with Judy. She was a great source of family news. She will be missed.
