Judith Kay Oakes, age 84, of Spring Lake passed away Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at a local care facility. She was born Sep. 1, 1939, in Spring Lake, Michigan to Burton David and Loretta Barbara (Clausen) Wilson. She married Readell Oakes on Aug. 31, 1979. He preceded her in death on January 15, 2015.
Judith graduated from Grand Haven High School. She worked at Meijer as a greeter for numerous years. Judy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she worked at the church's food pantry. She loved listening to and following the Chicago Cubs.
Judith is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Barbara Rose; two sons, David (Jill) Kunkel and Michael (Rhonda) Kunkel; three grandchildren: Andrea (Eric) Walquist, Sarah Kunkel and Nicole Kunkel; three great-grandchildren: Rooney, Tobias and Alexender. She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlene Morris and brother, Wayne Wilson.
A celebration of her life will be held in the spring of 2024. Arrangements by The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services 213 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456. Memorials to St. Mary's Catholic Church Food Pantry are appreciated.
