Myra Silvey Payne Oakes

1943 - 2026

Mrs. Myra Silvey Payne Oakes, age 82, of Rome, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at her residence.

Mrs. Oakes was born in Rome, Georgia on September 23, 1943, daughter of the late John Arthur Silvey and the late Flora Bell Howell Silvey. She was also preceded in death by her husbands, Bobby F. Payne in 2006, and Rev. J.C. Oakes in 2012, four sisters, Faye Ginn, Helen Morris, Mary Jo Potts, and Betty Holden, and by four brothers, Hershel, Junior, Harlan & Pete Silvey. Mrs. Oakes worked for 14 years at Sears and later retired from Floyd Medical Center where she worked as a transcriptionist. She was of the Baptist faith and was always an alley girl.

Survivors include two daughters, Karen Rickman (Joey) and Denise Swanson (Joel); six grandchildren, Heather Pearson (Cole), Payne Kessler (Ashley), Shelby Leath, Zack Leath, Anna Kate Moss (Grant), and Trey Rickman; nine great grandchildren, Oliver Pearson, Dexter Pearson, Wyatt Gresham, Kadence Williams, Avarie Mae Gresham, Silas Pearson, Grayson Leath, Layla Kessler, and Olivia Howerton; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 3pm at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Monday from 12 until 2pm.

Pallbearers will include Joey Rickman, Joel Swanson, Payne Kessler, Trey Rickman, Zack Leath, Cole Pearson, and Grant Moss.
