Judith K. Ogborne

Judith K. Ogborne, age 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on April 21, 2025, in Richmond, VA. She was born on April 1, 1939, in Pittsburgh, PA. Judith was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, James Joseph.

She met the love of her life Jim, and they created a home filled with love and family values. They loved supporting their sons in all aspects of their lives. Judy often spoke about the road trips to their sporting events, and the food she would make for all their friends to enjoy. Together they provided their sons every opportunity in life. There are no adequate words to describe the love and pride they felt for their two sons. After Jim's sudden passing in 1998, Judy discovered a strength in herself that, despite her grief, allowed for over 27 years of beautiful memories. This includes their son's marriages, the joy of three grandchildren and countless friendships.

Judy was an amazing cook and believed that special memories were made when friends and family gathered at her dining room table. Her love of cooking rivaled her love of traveling with her dearest friends. Perhaps her fondest trip was the cooking school she attended while staying at Julia Child's home, La Pitchoune, in France.

Judy was a voracious reader and an avid gardener. Each Sunday she was the first person in "her pew" to arrive at Mass. She will leave a legacy of beautiful friendships that she cultivated throughout her life, her school mates, her mahjong and book club groups and her precious "Winos." She also formed lifelong friendships while working at Bank Independent (Florence, AL) and the Virginia State Legislature. Her neighbors in both Alabama and Richmond considered her part of their families and it was her wisdom, honest advice and loyalty that will be most treasured.

Judith is survived by her two sons and two daughters-in-law, Kevin M. (Julie) and Michael P. (Stephanie); three grandchildren, Anna, Mason, and William; sister in-law, Joyce Ogborne and niece Maggie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Henrico, VA, at 12 p.m. on May 30, 2025.
