Judith Matilda Mossiah Pandy née McKoy
Heaven sent: August 25th, 1948
Heaven bound: May 16th, 2025
Momma you were a gift from our Lord God. Rest in the arms of Jesus, ma.
Judith was the eldest child born to David and Gladys McKoy née Neal (both deceased)
on August 25th, 1948, in Belize. She was born with a cleft lip and palate that made her
always self aware, but, she was a beautiful woman nonetheless, inside and out. She
told us she was spoon-fed her milk because she couldn't feed normally from breast or
bottle. Yes, her life started very rough but you wouldn't know it because she never
showed it. She never went to high-school or trade school but Judith could read and
write very well. She loved reading romance and mystery novels and I could recall the
shelves at home filled with all the books she read, they were many. She enjoyed sewing
and often made outfits for her girls. She managed our home with the monthly stipend my
dad gave her to budget for the home expenses. Our home ran smoothly, that if money
was ever tight, we would have never known. She disciplined us if we ever stepped out
of line, mommy's wrath was not one to be invoked. That meant her children are well
mannered. She was also a very good cook. Everyday (except for saturday, tamale day)
and especially on sundays we had our dinner and a dessert.
Judith didn't need any lessons in academics or a skill trade, she was just naturally a rare
find, good at whatever she does.
In the late 1960's, she met and married Hugh Mossiah Jr. ii and after the loss of her first
pregnancy, she went on loving and raising 9 other children Hugh iii, David, Kirk, Sharon
(deceased), Lincoln (deceased), Denise, Golda, Esi, Judah (deceased).
Judith loved all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to the moon and
back. In all the ups and downs of her life, loving and caring for her children made it all
worth it, she often said. She was always there for all of us to counsel/advise and
comfort us in our life's journey.
After losing her husband, Hugh, suddenly in 1996, she migrated to the U.S. in early
2000's. There, she met a friend from her teenage years, Mr. Maurice Pandy (deceased).
They got married, and she settled in Cleveland, Ohio, for the remainder of her life.
Judith was a strong woman, rarely complained or cried, thoughtful and selfless. I
remembered an older woman wandering on the street we lived, coming up to our home,
and my mom offering her a cup of Ovaltine. Of course, I asked who she was, and my
mom answered she didn't know. She told me to remember that sometimes we entertain
angels, you just never know. She was that kind of woman, the kind who sewed outfits
for her children or opened a fruit and vegetable shop to take care of her kids when life
put her in that situation. The kind that would get behind a set of drums, although she
never played before, in church, if no one else was there to do it. She was a special kind
of woman, the kind of woman described in Proverbs 31 and best of all... she was our
mom.
Judith went home to be with the Lord on May 16th, 2025, after her battle with stage 4
cancer. She is at peace, resting in the arms of Jesus.
