Barbara Pandy Obituary

Barbara Pandy

December 14, 1931 - August 24, 2024

Cary, North Carolina - Beloved grandmother and great-grandmother, Barbara

J. Pandy, peacefully passed away on August 24, 2024. Caring, humorous, smart, and kind, Barbara will be missed by all who knew her.

Barbara was born December 14, 1931 to Hazel and Edwin Junk of Uniontown, PA. A graduate of Uniontown High school, Barbara earned her bachelor's degree in music education from The Ohio State University, where she also met her future husband, Robert Pandy. Robert and Barbara enjoyed a loving 41-year marriage, raising two children, Susan and David.

While living in Columbus, OH, Barbara taught music in elementary schools. Moving to western New York in the early 60's, Barbara began a lifetime of volunteering for her local library while continuing as a substitute teacher. Barbara also became an avid bridge player. Moving to Pittsburgh, PA in the 70's, Barbara became active with the Pittsburgh Adult Literacy Program. An accomplished pianist, she also began her long career of providing private piano lessons. During the 90's Barbara and Robert lived in Omaha, where Barbara became a volunteer librarian with Father Flanagan's Boys Town. She also gave her time and energy to the Omaha Literacy Society and to the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Following Robert's passing in 1994, Barbara found tremendous joy and comfort in teaching English as a second language to newcomers and international students. In 1998, Barbara moved to Cary, NC to be close to her daughter and grandchildren, where she also volunteered at the Eva Perry Library, taught piano, joined bridge groups, and traveled. Whether volunteering, teaching English or piano, or playing bridge, Barbara fostered friendships with people from all walks of life.

Adored by her family, Barbara is survived by her children, Susan Pandy Gardner (John) and David Pandy (Elizabeth Mata-Pandy); grandchildren David Gardner (Jennifer), Emily Gardner Cloninger (Charles Cloninger), Ben Gardner (Elizabeth Poston), Nora Gardner, Kyle Pandy, Sophie Pandy, and great grandchildren Miles and Kayla Gardner.

Barbara believed in giving and helping others in need. She gave regular donations to Raleigh Food Bank, The Salvation Army, Boys Town, Dorcas Ministries, Make-a-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and more. Donations in her honor can be made to any of these organizations. Condolences can be shared online at apexfuneral.net
