Judith Smith Pitcher, 85, of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Judith’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 26th at Munden Funeral Home.
Born on November 19, 1940, in Carteret County, Judith was the daughter of the late Jim and Mary Smith. She spent her life caring for others, working as a certified nursing assistant in home health. Judith had a natural gift for making people feel comfortable and cared for.
Judith lived life with a creative and free spirit. She had a true passion for art and was especially known for her beautiful paintings, each one reflecting her unique perspective. She was a longtime member of the Carteret County Artist Guild and took great pride in co-owning, with her daughter Judy, Island Woman Art Galleries in both Beaufort and Morehead City. Her galleries were not just businesses, but a reflection of her heart and amazing creativity. She loved to dance.
Judith shared 40 wonderful years with her beloved husband, Bill. You could often find them together playing pool, a pastime they both enjoyed and one that never failed to bring a smile to her face. She also loved to dance and never missed an opportunity to move to the music.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her beloved husband, William “Bill” Pitcher; daughters, Judy Powers and Lisa Rose, both of Morehead City, NC; sister, Sandy McCabe (Bruce) of Morehead City, NC; grandchildren, Jesse Rose and Jennifer McCulley; and great grandchildren, Julianna McCulley, Robbie McCulley, and Alex McCulley.
In addition to her parents, Judith was preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Newman; sister, Sue Dunn; and brother, Gene Smith.
As an expression of sympathy, flowers are welcome.
