Celebrating the life of Judith Ann Richards Makowski; who was called by heavenly sources on February 1, 2023, at age 82. She was born at home in Lyles, Tennessee, to Calvin and Wilma Richards. She is survived by her two sisters, Mary Ruth Dolfman of Dublin, OH, and Kathie Laper of Hope Sound, FLA.
She was married for over sixty years to her husband Tim and has two daughters, Nicole Annette, and Marya Suzanne. Judith spent her formative years in Dearborn Heights Michigan and graduated with a teaching degree from Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, Michigan. She taught elementary school for three years and moved to Texas in 1976 to help her husband in the book fair business.
In 1988 she decided to teach again, in the Huffman, Harris County, Texas School District where she eventually retired. One of her highlights during an early modeling career, while in college, was becoming Miss Michigan-Universe in 1960. The University of Miami College guys voted her the "most kissable lips" by the pageant, and she was able to appear on the Dick Clark American Bandstand Show, and dance with Lawrence Welk on his show. While in Texas, she enjoyed being active in her children's school activities, teaching curriculum after school at the Catholic churches, and serving as president of the Atascocita Country Club Women's Club for two years. She enjoyed golf, traipsing, and attending live music and craft venues. Her greatest hope was to have made a difference in her student's lives!
She was also active in her Tri Sigma sorority group activities.
