Judith Rae Tomlin, affectionately known as Judy to her loved ones, was spicy, playful and supportive to all who knew her. Born on July 12, 1943, in Pratt, Kansas, she embarked on a journey of hard work, faith and love that touched many hearts. Judy's earthly walk came to a peaceful close on November 24, 2025 in
Denver, Colorado, surrounded by the love of her family.
Judy's life was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Despite the loss of her cherished parents, Vanetta (step-father Junius) Flemming and Phelix Flemming, her siblings Larry Minnis, Cynthia Flemming, and Lance Flemming, and her beloved son, Blair Tomlin, and precious great-granddaughters Giselle and Chanel. She continues to shine through her surviving siblings Pennie Nafisa, Martin (Mary) Flemming, Guy (Kathy) Flemming, Brad (Darby) Flemming, Van (Sandra) Flemming, and Shawn Flemming, as well as her children Terry (Sandra) Tomlin, Tanya (Alan) Henderson, Everett Tomlin II, and Ulonda Tomlin. Her legacy is further cherished by her eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Judy's commitment to education was unwavering. She earned her GED through correspondence school in order to get a job that paid well enough for her to support her five children. She was a single parent most of their lives. Her career spanned more than 25 years with the Social Security Administration, where she ascended to the role of Supervisor. Judy's work was more than a job; it was her ministry of helping others, often going above and beyond to ensure that those she served felt valued and respected.
As a devout Christian, Judy's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. It was the compass by which she navigated life's trials and triumphs. Judy's relationship with God was not just a personal sanctuary but also an open invitation for others to experience the love and grace she so fervently believed in. She was also a giver, in addition to her monthly tithes to her favorite churches, she gave to 15 charities monthly as a commitment to the community.
Judy had a passion for exploring the beauty of God's creation, often touring national parks and reveling in the splendor of the natural world. Traveling was not just a pastime but an extension of her adventurous spirit. Judy's shopping escapades were legendary, each destination providing a new opportunity to find treasures such as prayer shawls from Israel, cookware from Germany. And one time, she brought home a boyfriend from Jamaica.
Family was the epicenter of Judy's world. She relished in having get-togethers and game nights at her home. She particularly enjoyed watching the friendly competition of card games and thumped her cards home while talking smack when playing bid whist and laying down a Boston. Her home was a haven of warmth where old movies like The Sound of Music and Cinderella played while grandchildren and great-grandchildren camped out on the floor. For as long as she was able to get around, she supported her grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's sporting events (reminding them that she was a Green Belt in Tae Kwon do), dance recitals and school events, and kept each and every one of them in her daily prayers.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. followed by a repast at Judy's home at 5500 E. Martin Luther King Blvd.
