Armedia Gordon, 81, of Denver, Colorado, passed away on November 10, 2025, after showing remarkable courage throughout a long illness. Born in Lineville, Alabama, in 1944, she was raised by hardworking parents who instilled in her the values of integrity and dedication that shaped her life. Armedia grew up a bright, imaginative child who adored her family. After moving to Denver, she graduated from Manual High School and later attended Sterling Junior College, where she met James Gordon Jr., whom she married in 1963. Together they had three children. A devoted single mother, Armedia held many jobs before beginning a distinguished 30-year career with the Denver Police Department. She broke barriers as the first African American female homicide detective in the department and eventually retired as Division Chief over Investigations. Despite her career accomplishments, Armedia's greatest joy was being "Grandma." She cherished time with her 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, embracing each with love and support. She was also known for including her grandchildren's friends in family traditions and for her vibrant love of boxing-especially Muhammad Ali. Armedia will be remembered for her strength, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed. Thank you Armedia for your support and mentorship. You showed me love at the most crucial time in my life. All the conversations you had with me, let me know you cared. When I last saw you, our eyes lit up seeing each other. I enjoyed our conversations, our exploring the building together, our talking to the other residents, but most of all I enjoyed being in your presence. There were two ladies that had the most influence in my life, my mom and you. Both of you are resting in peace after such tremendous lives, where you touched so many people. Rest in heaven beautiful lady. You will always be remembered with love by, me.
