Our precious beloved, Judy Gayle Fisher Edens, of Hampstead, went peacefully to live eternally with Jesus in Heaven on Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 6:30 pm. Her husband, Bobby Raymond Edens, and family was with her at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Center as God's angels ushered her home. A celebration of Judy's life will be held graveside at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Edens Family Cemetery 160 Mill Creek Road, Hampstead NC, near her home, with Reverend Preston Wells officiating and Timmy Biggs bringing worship music.
Judy was born on June 5, 1945, and was married to Bobby, also of Hampstead, for 61 years. She was the daughter of Eldrige French Fisher, and Ida Pearl Williams of Holly Ridge. Judy is survived by her husband, Bobby; her son, Rodney Raymond Edens, and daughter, Sonya Gail Edens, husband Randy Greer of Bolivia, NC. She is also survived by her only sister, Linda Pierce of Jacksonville NC, and youngest brother Eddie Fisher of Burlington, NC. Also surviving Judy are her treasured grandchildren, Benjamin Kenneth Lee and wife Angelica Stanisic of Harrells, NC, Joshua William Lee of Burgaw, and Rachel Elizabeth Edens of Wilmington, NC. Judy has many nieces and nephews whom she loved and they truly loved her in return. Proceeding her in death are two older brothers, Morris Fisher and Murray Fisher.
Judy was known for her spirituality and her heavenly gift of hospitality. She was a most gracious host, and absolutely the best cook anyone could imagine. Bobby would say to others, "She can make a biscuit so good that if you put it on top of your head, your tongue would beat your brains out trying to get to it!" And he said, "If you are ever lucky enough to put your knees under Judy's table, you won't ever forget it!" Welcoming anyone, and everyone, countless cousins and friends will remark how special she made everyone feel.
Judy worked as a night assistant at Cornelia Davis nursing home, then later she worked planting seedlings at Lockamy's Nursery in Wilmington. Judy's gifts of creativity and design were used when she partnered with her sister Linda owning and operating Flowers and Things Florist in Sneads Ferry, NC. Later years were spent helping raise grandchildren, loving and assisting Bobby with decisions to build/sell homes and with his business, and gardening.
Her most favored times were spent on Topsail Island and in the surrounding sounds nubbing oysters for Bobby, picking out shrimp from the trawl, laying belly down on a boat throw floating and squishing the mud at the clamming hole. Besides being the BEST at clamchowder, home picked crabmeat stuffed flounder, this woman was by far the most particular flounder dresser in our parts! December 26 in the early 80's, Judy woke to find 108 gigged flounders in a cooler. Bobby came home after work to find his catch all cleaned, fileted and packed in the freezer!
Judy's faith must be commended. She spread her love for Jesus first to her family and to so many others. She was a 4&5 year old Sunday School teacher, with Bobby's assistance, at St. Andrews on the Sound Episcopal Church in Wilmington, and later chaperoned Episcopal Youth Church at St. Philips in Holly Ridge. In more recent years she was a member of Providence Baptist in Holly Ridge. Her favorite prayer was simple, "Lord help me." She would want everyone she knew to receive Jesus Christ, and read their Bible. She lived by His faithfulness and the promise that He would never leave us. She was thankful for all blessings and looked forward to living in the Kingdom of God when He called her home.
