Judy Eisfelder

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Judy Jeanne Eisfelder, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and great aunt. Judy passed away peacefully on the evening of April 14th, 2025. Her last day was spent with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter telling her stories of our wonderful life together and making sure she knew what an amazing wife, mom and “Grammy” she was.

Judy was born in Wichita, Kansas on February, 24, 1946 to loving parents, Pat and Jack King. She and her younger sister, Jacki had a very happy childhood in their little house on Avalon St. This same house continued to be a special place for the next generation as Judy and Jacki and their families spent every Christmas there together. Grandpa Jack would play the organ, passing on his love of music, while Grandma Pat would prepare the most amazing spread of food you could ever imagine.

Judy attended Kansas University for college, where she met her husband, Bart Eisfelder. Bart says it was love at first sight when his fraternity helped the freshman girls move into their dorms. Judy says she took a little convincing, but eventually she agreed to go out with him. That date turned into a 56 year marriage! They would have celebrated 57 years together this June.

Bart and Judy were married on June 8, 1968 in Lawrence, Kansas. Shortly after, they moved to Topeka for Bart to attend Washburn Law School and for Judy to begin her teaching career. The couple moved to Kansas City in 1972. They bought a house in Fairway and settled in to start their family. Jake was born in August of 1973 and Jessica in September of 1976. They moved across the street to the house they would continue to live in for the next 40 years.

Judy was kind and generous. She volunteered her time for many years as an active member and President of the Westwood View Elementary School PTA. She and her friends put on the most elaborate and fantastic school events. She was also a very active member and President 2 times of the Kansas City Atheneum, an organization that raised money for various Kansas City charities.

Judy was open-minded and wanted everyone to be able to be their true self. She encouraged her children to pursue their passions for art, music and gardening. She would stay up late to see Jake and his bands play loud music at smoky bars. She loved it when dad would bring out his guitar and we would all attempt to remember the words to Rocky Top. She and Bart loved to attend the Bluegrass Festival in Winfield. She put on art shows for Jessica and Mary in her home and was their biggest supporter. She loved to travel to new towns, to shop and support their local artists and small businesses. When Jake started landscaping, she hired him to design their garden. Many family gatherings and special events, such as Jake and Mary’s wedding, were held in that beautiful backyard.

Judy was an amazing hostess, like her mother, and she made every holiday and family event special. She searched antique and thrift stores to decorate her beautifully eclectic home. She loved Colorado, and planned family vacations there twice a year, skiing for spring break and hiking in the Rocky Mountains each summer. Judy and Bart loved to talk about the cabin in Colorado where they would retire.

But sometimes life doesn’t go as planned. Our family suffered a great loss with the sudden death of Judy’s sister, Jacki in 2015. Shortly after, Judy developed early onset dementia and so the last 10 years of her life were not what we hoped they would be. We are comforted knowing that Judy is reunited with her sister, enjoying long talks and walks with our much loved animals.

Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Jack King, and her sister, Jacqueline Harvey. She is survived by her husband Bart Eisfelder, son Jake and daughter Jessica, daughter-in-law MaryMargaret, son-in-law Jasen Fore, grandchildren Michael Estes, Maya Josephine, Boden Mills and Oona Sophia, niece Rebecca Harris and her family, Rhody, Ruby and Zeke, nephew Benjamin Harvey and his family, Toni and Sam.

The family would like to thank all those who helped to care for Judy over the last few years.

A celebration of life will be held in the backyard garden at Bart and Judy’s house in Fairway, on May 31, 2025. Family and friends are welcome to come anytime from 1-4pm. Please contact Jake or Jessica if you need more details.
