Judith Ellen Houston (Anderson), passed away unexpectedly on August 7th, 2025. Her cremated remains have been interred with those of her late spouse at the National Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida. She was born in Rochester, New York, on June 9, 1941, was one of the six children of Chester W. and Inez L. (Pifer) Anderson, was pre-deceased by her two siblings Joanna Anderson and William Anderson, and is survived by three sisters, Diane Furdell of Kenmore, New York, Sylvia A. Marks-Newman of Delray Beach, Florida, and Christine Lally of Castleton-on-Hudson, New York. She also is survived by seven step-children, Beth Dragon, Amy Buechel, Anita Houston, Melissa Comstock, MerriJo Siebert, King O. Houston, and Tommi Houston. Judy was a graduate of the Our Lady of Mercy High School and the University of Rochester, and had a life-long career as a writer in New York City, upstate New York, and Florida, retiring in 2001. She married Odette K. (Sam) Houston in 1971, creating a loving partnership that spanned 44 years. They moved from Pen Yan, New York to Venice, Florida in 1993. Judy was an active member of her community at Gondola Park, the Unitarian Universalist Church of Venice, the American Association of University Women and numerous other organizations. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 18th, 2025 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Venice, located at 1971 Pinebrook Road, Venice, Florida 34292. In leu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled Veterans Foundation, USO, or the American Indian College Fund.

Judy was the first person to notice a change in me after I quit drinking. We became friends eventually. Not many folks can become close to a step parent who didn't raise them, but enjoyed more than a few shopping trips and she got to know my husband and children as well.
