It is with great sadness that the family of Jane (Eleanor) L. Vorel announce her passing in
Sarasota, Florida on November 27, 2025, at the age of 88 after a short illness. At the time of her passing, she resided at 1301 N. Tamiami Trail
Sarasota, FL with her husband John D. Vorel. She was born in La Crosse, WI, and graduated with a nursing degree from Saint Francis School of Nursing. After graduation, she married John and they moved to Greenville, SC where she worked as a nurse at Greenville General Hospital. During the following years, in both Greenville, SC and Menands, NY she raised five wonderful children. After retirement, she and her beloved husband traveled extensively throughout the world, and divided their time between homes in Menands, NY, Lake George NY, and Longboat Key FL. She is a former member of the Lake George Club, Wolferts Roost Country Club, The Longboat Key Country Club, and life member and supporter of the Saratoga Performing Arts Center. She cherished her Catholic faith and her family and was a caring member of the community visiting the sick, and particularly the retired Daughters of Charity, in Menands, NY. She was a member of Saint Pius X Church in Loudonville, NY, Sacred Heart Church in Lake George, NY, and Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church in Longboat Key, FL, where she devoted her time to her Eucharistic and Service ministries, the Christ Child Society, and the Women's Guild. Jane and John enjoyed yearly family reunions at their home on Lake George and also on vacations with the family in Martha's Vineyard, Steamboat Springs, Asheville, and Park City. Her great loves were most importantly her husband and her religion in addition to family, friends, traveling, skiing, tennis, her sports teams the Buccaneers and the Lightning, and many wonderful collections of antiques, treasures and angels. Her prized collection was 330 rolling pins for which she received recognition in The Post Star of Fort Ann, NY.
Jane is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, John D. Vorel; her children, Patricia (Susan) Vorel of Mendham, NJ, Tracy (Will) Kramer of Stratham, NH, Mark (Wendy) Vorel of Parker CO, Steven Vorel of Golden CO, Michael (Suzanne) Vorel of Philadelphia, PA. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Scott and Madison Vorel, Kaylee Dews, Tyler and Mackenzie Vorel, Daphne Vorel, Olivier and Arek Stanczyk, Benjamin, Dylan, and Ada Stokes and 3 great-grandchildren, Sophia, Zena and Elijah. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two loving sisters Margaret (Louis) Winninger of Waterloo, IA and Marian (Bill) Holicky of Oshkosh, WI.
A wake will be held at Toale Brothers Funeral Home 40 N. Orange Ave.
Sarasota, FL on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 from 2:00-4:00pm. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church 4280 Gulf of Mexico Dr., Longboat Key, FL on Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 1:00pm. Internment will be at Saint Agnes Cemetery in Menands, NY. Donations may be made, in memory of Jane L. Vorel to Saint Mary Star of the Sea Church, Longboat Key, FL 34228.
