Jule G. Campbell

Jule G. Campbell, age 96, of New York NY and Flemington NJ, died Saturday, November 19, 2022, in Raritan Township NJ.
Born May 15, 1926, in New York, NY, Jule was the daughter of the late Jules and Maddeline (Saunig) Gallina. She spent her childhood splitting time between Chicago, IL, Grosse Point, MI and her family farm in Flemington, NJ, where she lived for many years.
After graduating from Stephens College (MO) and the University of Missouri, where she studied journalism, Jule began her career as an assistant at Glamour magazine. She rose to become accessories editor at Glamour before joining Sports Illustrated in 1960 as a fashion writer and reporter.
In 1964, Andre Laguerre assigned her to shoot a swimsuit story to fill the mid-winter lull in the sporting calendar. As the founding editor of what would become the SI Swimsuit Issue, Jule turned that 5-page spread into a cultural phenomenon during her 32 years at the helm. She was widely credited with launching the careers of supermodels like Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Paulina Porizkova, Kathy Ireland and Elle Macpherson.
Jule married Ronald Campbell, a longtime art director for Fortune Magazine in 1956. The two were married nearly 60 years.
In addition to her parents, Jule was predeceased by her husband, Ronald Campbell in 2015. Jule and Ron had one son, Bruce (b. 1958) who she leaves behind along with two grandchildren, Hannah (John) and Graham and their mother, Jill Campbell.
Private memorial services are being planned for a later date. A documentary about Jule's life is currently being produced by EUE Screengems and Red Barn LLC.
Cremation services and arrangements are under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington NJ 08822.
