SHIPSHEWANA - Julia B. Balyeat, 89, of Shipshewana, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on Dec. 28, 1935, in Shipshewana, daughter of the late Samuel Ray and Louise Mildred (Neu) Weaver. Julia was raised in the Scott area of LaGrange County and graduated from Scott High School.
After marrying and starting a family, she devoted her life to being a loving homemaker.
Julia found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She had a deep love for nature - spending hours tending to her flower garden and watching birds gather at her feeders. Some of her happiest moments were spent with her family at the river, sharing laughter and creating cherished memories. Julia also had a gift for connection; she was known for sending heartfelt cards to friends and loved ones for all occasions, always remembering the special days in the lives of others.
On June 10, 1956, Julia married Roger C. Balyeat at Lima Presbyterian Church in Howe, Indiana. This year, they joyfully celebrated 69 years of marriage - a beautiful testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Julia is survived by her beloved husband, Roger; and their four daughters, Sherry (Rodney) Frain, Terry (Dan) Crabill, Pamela (Jim) Bergstedt and Dawn (Richard) Miller, all of Shipshewana, Indiana. She also leaves behind a proud legacy of nine grandchildren, Heather (Jason) Norberg, Tondra (Brandon) Mauck, Angela (Justin) Chastain, Jason (Stephanie) Crabill, Melissa (Ron) Mishler, Jessica (Brad) Hochstetler, Judith (Lance) Miller, Anthony Miller and Hope Miller; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Norma Jean StClair.
