Julia Ann Bateman passed away peacefully in the company and support of family, and a very good friend, at her home in Layton, Utah on Saturday May 31, 2025.
Julia was born March 13, 1942, in Ogden, Utah. Her father, Delbert Bateman was also born in Ogden and was the son of early settlers from England, and the first one in his line born in the United States. Her mother Grace Hymas was born in Paris, Idaho and was the daughter of English and Danish pioneers.
She is survived by one sibling, Marie Nye and preceded in death by her parents and siblings Audrey, LaMae, and Don. She is an aunt to many nieces and nephews, many of which she directed in Christmas plays at the Bateman home.
Julia brought six amazing individuals into this world. 3 sons: Carey Child (Suzanne) of Bermuda, Clint Child (Kari) of Nampa, Idaho, Michael Olson (Jennifer) of Honolulu, Hawaii. And 3 daughters: Davina Olson (Gabrielle) of Aurora, Colorado, Becky Michaud of Layton, Utah, and Maren Wood of Lakewood, Colorado. She has 18 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
She was married to Glenn Child, father of two, Riley Olson, father of four. She later married Edwin Maughan of Golden, Colorado. Her former spouses also preceded her in death.
Julia attended then named Weber College, now Weber State University. She later earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Utah. She attended the Cleve Beckster School of Lie Detection in San Diego and owned a polygraph screening business in Salt Lake City. Julia spent many years working for the U.S. Geological Service and IRS.
In addition to her family, Julia loved writing, social science, genealogy, and music. With her husband Edwin she sang with the Colorado Corral in Denver. She was a self-proclaimed liberal-feminist and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Aaron’s Mortuary, 496 24th Street, Ogden, Utah. Friends may visit with family at a Viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery, 1875 Monroe Blvd, Ogden, Utah.
