Julia Capdevielle Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hanley Funeral Home, Inc. - Staten Island on Mar. 16, 2023.
Julia E. Capdevielle nee Boylan passed away peacefully at 95 years of age on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Brighton Gardens of Middletown Assisted Living in New Jersey.
Born in the Bronx on January 28, 1927, her family moved to Staten Island when she was a young girl. She attended Our Lady Queen of Peace elementary school in New Dorp and New Dorp High School, where she won a bookkeeping award and assisted with the school's bookkeeping while still a student.
In 1949 Julia married Martin Capdevielle, who predeceased her in 2004 after 54 years of marriage. Julia and Martin were devoted to each other for their entire lives. She is survived by her children Henry, Elizabeth, Gerard, Marie and John (Jack), 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is remembered as a loving mother and grandmother, who always thought of others before herself.
Julia was a homemaker, she worked as a secretary for United Fruit and Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, she was a girl scout troop leader, and was always proud of her Irish heritage.
After retirement, Julia and her husband bought a home in Leesburg, Florida and became "snow birds", enjoying their winters there. They made a trip to the Holy Land where they renewed their marriage vows. She enjoyed crafts such as crocheting, ceramics and painting. She was a parishioner of St. Christopher's and she commissioned a portrait of St. Theresa which hangs in the church.
After her husband Martin's passing, she volunteered for several years with Staten Island University Hospice. She moved to Brighton Gardens assisted living in 2019 and lived there until her passing.
Viewing is Monday, January 16 from 4pm to 8pm at Hanley Funeral Home, 60 New Dorp Lane. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 17 at 10:30am at St. Christopher's R C Church, 130 Midland Ave.
