Dorothy Julia Jonathan of Arlington, Massachusetts, died on June 4, 2024 only weeks after being diagnosed with metastatic cancer. She was born in 1937 in England the eldest daughter of David Jonathan and Dorothy Riggs. She moved to the United States in 1961 with her then husband Steve Callahan and lived in various cities in the subsequent 60 years, the longest period in Santa Monica, California, where she spent 20 years before moving to Arlington in 2022.
She was an actress in many theatrical productions, and a proud member of Actors' Equity Association, the Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Film Artists (SAG-AFTRA) and the American Guild of Musical Artists. She was also a bookkeeper for many years.
Nothing brought her more joy than sharing food, the more unusual the better, with her loved ones. She loved meeting people from all walks of life and telling them a good story.
She is survived by her four children including Jonathan Callahan and wife Leska Fore, Timothy Callahan and wife Brooke Beatty, Anna Callahan, Myfanwy Callahan and husband Ari Herbstman, as well as her six grandchildren Ruby, Reya, Rowan, Viola, Leif, and Miranda.
A memorial service will be held Sunday June 30th at 2pm at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington, MA at 630 Massachusetts Ave, Arlington, MA 021476.
Memorials or donations may be made to The Entertainment Community Fund (formerly Actors Fund) a 501c3 nonprofit organization serving professionals in film, theatre, television, music, opera, radio and dance.
