Julia Kirlin

Julia Katherine (Maier) Kirlin, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, on April 26, 2025, surrounded by the vibrant spring gardens she so carefully nurtured throughout her life.
Born on May 13, 1931, in Philadelphia, Julia was the only child of the late Karl and Katherine (Staudenmaier) Maier. She graduated from North Coventry High School in 1948 and pursued higher education at West Chester Teachers College. Julia dedicated 33 years to teaching kindergarten and first grade at Barth Elementary in Pottstown, sharing her passion for learning with generations of young students.
Her adventurous spirit also led her to teach at Burtonwood airbase in England for a year. Julia's love for travel took her across the United States and Europe, and she spent a memorable period living in Alaska working for Alaska Native Arts and Crafts trading company.
She served on the board of the Pottstown YWCA and on the board of Grace Lutheran Preschool. In retirement, she devoted herself to her family, her church, and the family farm. She was an active member of the Pottstown Women's Club, where she served as president for many years. She loved playing Scrabble with her daughter and word games of any kind.
She is survived by her daughter, Liesl Kirlin (Nick Flocco); granddaughters Allison Manley (John) and Liliana Burke; and great-grandchildren Jack, Stella, and Max Manley. Along with her parents, Julia was predeceased by her infant son, David.
Services will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to French & Pickering Creeks Conservation Trust.
