Mrs. Julia Rose Hoover McGee, age 79, of Dushore, PA, and formerly of Towanda, PA, passed away late Monday afternoon, August 25, 2025, at the Robert Packer Hospital surrounded with love from her family.
Julie, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on March 24, 1946, a daughter of the late Andrew R. and Emma Verona Vanderpoel Hoover. She attended Towanda area schools. On January 23, 1964, she married Joseph Patrick McGee Jr., and they celebrated their 61st anniversary this past January. They lived in East Towanda for most of their lives, before moving to Troy in 2010, and back to Towanda in 2018. In October of 2021, they moved to Dushore with their grandson, where they enjoyed living on “McGee’s Funny Farm”.
In her younger years, Julie enjoyed shopping, especially at all the different rummage and yard sales. She also enjoyed laying out by her pool and spending time on her porch deck with her family. Her favorite place was at the kitchen table, either preparing meals for her family or enjoying a cup of coffee with a friend and was always up for a good competitive game of cards. For many years, she never missed completing the morning crossword puzzle and crypto quote. She was also a lifelong Elvis fan. When her grandchildren were young, she enjoyed attending the Evergreen Christian Church and was an AWANA leader for a number of years. In later years, she found enjoyment in playing computer games, watching TV, and talking on the phone. However her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her two boys and grandchildren. She was looking forward to meeting her first great grandchild, Margeaux Drew Pickett in the beginning of September. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
