Julia Chance Rieves, 86, of Prince George County, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Born in Petersburg, Virginia, on July 3, 1939, she was the daughter of the late William Ryas Chance and Frances Hancock Chance. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas “Eddie” Edward Rieves, and her siblings, Patty, Billy, DeeDee, Beachie, and Wayne.
Julia deeply loved her family and was always there to care for them. She treasured time spent together and filled those moments with laughter through her great sense of humor. Remembered for her strong work ethic and warm heart, Julia also enjoyed relaxing and watching TV in her free time.
She is survived by her children, Janet L. Peterson and William F. Peterson, Jr.; grandchildren, Lydia, Alexis, Loren, Julia, Bill, and Elizabeth; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; special nephew, William Chad Mayes; and many other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025, in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Colonial Heights Chapel, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, which was very special to her, www.stjude.org/donate
