Major Ashton Collins, 91, of S. Chesterfield passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025. Born November 14, 1933, he was the son of the late Sterling and Mabel Reekes Collins. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Sterling L. Collins; and sister, Mary Collins Mayton.
He retired after 35 years of dedicated service with the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Company. Outside of his career, Major found true enjoyment in his love of Ford trucks—whether driving them, working on them, or simply appreciating their build. Though he was a very private man who valued his solitude, Major was also known for his sense of humor. He had a playful streak and loved being a practical joker, always ready to surprise those around him with a laugh when they least expected it.
He is survived by his nephew, Sterling Ray Collins; sister-in-law, Alice A. Collins; close friend, Small Coleman; and other extended family members.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 24, 2025 in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, September 23, 2025 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Online condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
