Ms. Julia Mae Smith also known as “Grandma J” peacefully transitioned into rest at her home in Augusta, GA, on Saturday, January 3, 2026. Her gentle presence and boundless love for family and friends will be profoundly missed, yet her devotion to caring for others will continue to inspire us all to extend the same kindness.

She is survived by her beloved daughter Antonia Brinson, her sister Ellawyn Smith, brothers Robert Smith (Gwen), Maurice Smith (Tawanda), Bobby Smith (Constance), and Walter Smith (Shannon). She is also survived by five treasured grandchildren—DonQuarius Smith, DeAngelo Roberson Sr., Henry Martin III, Alfonzo Martin—eleven great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends to cherish her memory.

Ms. Smith was preceded in death by her son Mario Smith, sisters Trish Ann Cummings, Ethel Trumpler, Ruth Brown Gregg, Bertha Smith, Betty Simpkins, and brothers David Cummings, James Smith (Belinda), Henry Smith (Edna).

Her life was a testament to love, compassion, and the quiet strength of a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Though the Lord saw fit to call her home, the memories she leaves behind will forever remain in our hearts, guiding us toward a life of generosity and care and love.

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” Psalm 34:18
