Julia Angela Valerius

Julia Angela Shannon Valerius passed away on June 9th, 2025, at Cedar City Hospital, Utah. She was born June 30th, 1971, in Las Vegas, Nevada to Carol Rose Moss and Samuel Arvin Shannon Jr. Julia was raised in Las Vegas, Nevada and went to school in Clark County, attending Eldorado High School. She then attended Dixie State College for a little while and transferred to Utah State University where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Art Sculpture and Deaf education. She graduated in 1999. In September of 2000, she met her future husband Clarence (Buddy) Valerius. They were married the following year on March 24, 2001, in the St George temple.
Julia loved creating beautiful art and working with her hands. She was a skilled welder, as well as a painter and sculptor. She scratched her artistic itch by sculpting and decorating cakes. Julia was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and loved to serve her ward. She was an avid family history consultant and loved to find families and put them together. She was a member of the Cedar City chapter of the Lions Club international, where she proudly served for many years. Julia loved gardening and building her own beds to harvest her crop. She loved to play the flute and played in the community band until she no longer could because of her ALS.
Julia is survived by her husband Buddy, and her three daughters, Jenna (23), Juleann (21), Janeth (18), and her only son BJ (14) Valerius (Cedar City, Utah).
She is preceded in death by her father Samuel Shannon, and her mother Carol Shannon. Her maternal grandparents Clarence Mcalister Moss and Olive Moss. Her Uncles Ronny Moss, Robert Moss and his wife Roberta, and Irwin Moss. As well as Paternal Grandparents Samuel Arvin Shannon Sr and Ruby Angelon Snowden.
The Valerius family wishes to express their heartfelt love and appreciation to her Neurologist Dr. Alan Sanderson and his family for the love and care they provided.
Funeral services will be held on Friday June 27, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Enoch West Stake Center (3575 North Minersville Highway, Enoch, UT). The viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:00 am – 10:30 am. Interment will follow in the Enoch City Cemetery, under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary.
