Born on January 6, 1945 to James Edgar Braudaway and Gladys Bernstein Lomax in Florence, Alabama. Duke lived a life filled with passion, joy, and an enduring commitment to those around him.
A dedicated truck driver for many years, Julian was known for his approachable and friendly demeanor. He had the ability to engage with everyone he met, always acknowledging others with a warm smile and kind words. He never met a stranger and could often be found sharing a conversation with friends and strangers alike. He married his high school sweetheart Oma “Lee”, who passed away in 2013.
Julian’s military service began when he entered the Army before transferring to the Navy. His time aboard the U.S.S. Kearsarge in Unit CVS-33 was marked by his crucial role in placing blocks under the wheels of landing jets on the flight deck, embodying his commitment to duty and teamwork.
He loved spending time with his family in his leisure time playing card games, dominos and chess. He enjoyed sharing his love of music, especially Elvis and Steve Earle, with his family and friends. He was also a Dallas Cowboys fan and could be found cheering them on, for better or worse, during their season.
In his personal life, Julian had a variety of interests that brought him happiness. He loved taking naps with his cats, Harley Davidsons and found joy in simple pleasures, like eating hamburgers and sipping coffee or enjoying one of his all-time favorite meals, a hot or cold bologna sandwich with a glass of milk.
Julian took immense pride in his children, continually finding joy in watching them grow into successful individuals. His proudest accomplishments revolved around his family, an important cornerstone of his life.
He is survived by his children, Julian Brown Braudaway Jr., Christian Leigh Wallace and her husband Joshua Lee Wallace and his brother, Travis Edgar Braudaway.
Julian is preceded in death by, his parents, James Edgar Braudaway and Glayds Bernstein Lomax and siblings, Gladys June Spivey, Charles Edward Braudaway, James Harlod Braudaway and David Elmer Braudaway.
As we remember Julian, we honor a man whose friendly nature, love for conversation, and devotion to his family will leave a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will undoubtedly continue to resonate in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
