Julian E. "Sonny" Hawkins, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of hard work and enduring strength. He was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia area, a Vietnam veteran, and retired after 34 years with CSX Railroad.
Sonny was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 36 years, Tami Starr Wright Hawkins; his parents, Julian E. "Sye" Hawkins Jr. and Anna Jo Stotts Hawkins.
He is survived by his children, Eric Hawkins, Lee Hawkins, and Carrie (Michael) Powell; grandchildren, Cora and Crew Powell; sister, Suzanne Holder and brother, Joey Hawkins; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Throughout his life he had many joys including raising cattle, training and fielding bird dogs, gardening, and was an avid NASCAR fan.
Sonny's life was marked by a deep commitment to his family and his work ethic. He was the true definition of a provider.
The funeral service will be held at the Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home Lafayette Chapel, 1779 North Main Street, LaFayette, Georgia on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, 1 p.m. with Reverend Steve Wells officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 30, 2025 from 4-8 p.m. and also prior to the service on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m.
