Julie L. Rude

Julie L. Rude, age 52, of Millington, Michigan, passed away on June 25, 2025. Born on December 21, 1972, in Saginaw to parents Beverly and Mike Bassett.

Julie was a dedicated educator, having taught special education for 28 years in the Vassar and Mayville school districts.

A proud graduate of Saginaw Valley State University, holding both a teaching degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree, Julie was passionate about her calling and devoted to her students. Her teaching career spanned nearly three decades, marked by her genuine compassion, kindness, and patience. Julie’s impact on her students' lives was profound; she took immense pride in her work and continually strived to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Julie was known for her sincere and loving nature, but above all she embodied her role as a mother. She was whole heartedly dedicated to her sons Brandon and Tyler and their activities which included cross country, robotics, and band.

Julie found joy in many hobbies that allowed her to express her creativity. Cooking and baking were among her favorite pastimes, and she was particularly skilled at designing craft projects for any occasion using her Cricut machine. One of her latest projects included creating Detroit Tiger Ball shirts, which brought happiness to her family. Additionally, she loved spending weekends at their cabin in Tustin, MI, and enjoyed cheering for the Tigers at games, as well as attending book club meetings with her girlfriends.

On November 7th, 1998 she wed Mark Rude and together they have shared over 26 years of marriage.

She is survived by her husband, Mark Rude; her cherished children, Brandon and Tyler Rude; her devoted parents, Beverly and Mike Bassett; and her brother, Jeff (Jessie) Bassett. In-laws, Diane (Jim) McKay, Lisa Bach, and Dan (Kathy) Rude. Many nieces and nephews.

Julie was preceded in death by her in-laws, Jim and Barb Rude, grandparents, William and Jean Bassett, John Surprenant, Elizabeth Marsden, and her uncle, David Surprenant.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Hanlin Funeral Home in Millington. A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Millington; visitation at church will begin at 10 a.m. and last until the time of service. Afterward, graveside services to follow in Millington Twp. Cemetery.

Julie L. Rude leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, dedication of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her family, friends, and colleagues.
