Juliette Bilke Obituary

Conroe - Juliette Bilke went to be with the Lord June 6, 2023 at age 90. Born on November 28, 1932 in Pickens County, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Kittie Mae Redus, brother and sister-in-law William Roland and Grace Redus and husband Vernon Bilke. She is survived by her 4 children and their spouses, Paul and Bethann Bilke of College Station, TX, John and Christy Bilke of Lafayette, LA, Kittie and Jeff Sorrells of Conroe, TX,, and Angie and Greg Norman of Concan, Texas. She is survived by her 12 grandchildren, Michael Bilke, Matthew Bilke, Laura Bornefeld, Christian Bilke, Jonathon Bilke, Josiah Bilke, Gracie Bilke, Benjamin Sorrells, Tyler Sorrells, Denton Norman, Amy Norman, and Kara Norman.

Juliette graduated with her degree in education from Mississippi State University for Women. She moved to McAllen, TX and taught elementary school. After the birth of her first child, she and her husband opened Bilke's Auto Service Center at 10th and Harvey, where they ran their business for 25 years. Juliette was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in McAllen where all her children attended elementary school. She moved to the Houston area to be closer to her children and grandchildren who lovingly called her Granny. She was a friend to anyone in need and showed her love of others with acts of service and humor. She was the matriarch of the family and would gladly tell you the truth, even if it hurt. She sacrificed so much to give to others. Whether it was volunteering her time sitting with the sick, or babysitting to give her kids a break. She always put others' needs before her own. She wanted to be known as "Granny" by everyone and, as one of her grandchildren said, "Granny is the boss of everybody ... .even God!" Although she was not the boss of God, her greatest wish was that her family would know the joy and peace that Jesus' presence would be in their lives .

A celebration of her life will be held at Virgil Wilson funeral home in Mission, Texas, on Monday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m.There we will share stories and visit with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to St. Paul Lutheran School to fund the education of students would be greatly appreciated. This school holds so many memories for Juliette's children.

Miss Redus, later Mrs. Bilke, was one of my teachers in McAllen. I remember when she married and wrote her new name on the blackboard.
She was so pretty with perfect hair and clothes. All the girls in my classes thought she was nothing short of glamorous.
I think I remember her driving a Cadillac, maybe blue? She was patient, caring and kind to me and my classmates.
Sometimes, teachers make such a difference in a young life that they´re still remembered 66 years later.
