Juline Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Linnemann Funeral Home - Erlanger on Feb. 28, 2026.
Juline Lindley Smith, 96, passed away on February 23, 2026, at Legacy Living Florence, in Florence Kentucky.

Born on May 15, 1929 in Kannapolis, North Carolina, to the late John Calvin Lindley and the late Linnie Ruth Hinson. Juline was raised in Kannapolis by her mother and step-father Paul Burnette.

Juline attended J. W. Cannon High School. Her senior year she was voted best dressed, something that stayed with her throughout life, she never left her home without her jewelry. Juline graduated in 1946, a year early, something she was proud to tell. In 1948 she attended Hollingsworth Business School which led to a career in accounting.

Juline moved to Charlotte where she met her husband of 57 years, Joe W. Smith, and was a loving mother to son Joe Lin and daughter Sherry.

She was employed in Charlotte by American Oil, Esso (later to become ExxonMobil) and Federal Reserve Bank.

Travel and seeing the world was a big part of her life, as well as gardening. Working in the yard became a passion when she moved to Lake Norman. Every spring beautiful azaleas filled her yard with color, which were enjoyed by many friends and neighbors. Later years, playing bingo, working puzzles and crafting were her hobbies.

Juline was a member of Williamson's Chapel United Methodist Church in Mooresville, North Carolina. She was a fourth great granddaughter of John William Love Mayhew, an original settler of Mayhewtown and the first Methodist preacher in South Iredell preaching at the area where McKendree Chapel Church was built.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe W. Smith, her sister Dorothy "Dottie" Woods, her brother John Calvin Lindley Stines and her half-brother Lance Burnette.

Juline is survived by her son, Lin (Sylvia) Smith; her daughter, Sherry (Pete) Smith; her niece, Ann Woods; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Bill) Wyman and Rebecca Smith; and her great-grandchildren, Trae Wyman, George Wyman, and Max Wyman.

Services will be held in North Carolina at a later date.
