Julio Cesar Rolon, a resident of
Cathedral City, CA, passed away at the age of 81 at his home on Sunday, February 19th, 2023.
Julio was born on February 17th,1942 in Cayey, Puerto Rico to Israel Rolon & Ermin Vega. His Sister Anna (Andreasen) was also born in Cayey, Puerto Rico. The Rolon family moved to the Bronx, New York in 1955. Julio's 3 other siblings, David Rolon, Israel Rolon and Domingo Rolon were all born and raised in New York. After graduating from High School, Julio joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in San Antonio Texas. He was deployed to the war in Vietnam and served his Country proudly. While stationed in San Antonio, he met his wife, Teresa Borrego. They married on June 28th, 1961. They had 3 children, Julius, Ermine, and Debra. Julio moved his family from Texas to New York and completed his military service being honorably discharged from The United States Air Force. In the Bronx, he worked as a journeyman learning trades such as plumbing and electrical. With that knowledge he made a career as a maintenance technician for the local School District. In 1962, looking for more work and wanting to live in a dryer climate, they moved to
Palm Springs, California following other family members that had already made the move from Texas. Julio and Teresa both re-married and Julio moved back to New York. He lived back and forth from New York, Staten Island, Cathedral City and even Canada. He owned his own hot dog cart and would sell them on the pier of Coney Island. He also owned a successful Handyman business for many years " Rolon's Home Repair ". Julio enjoyed building model train sets, flying his model airplanes, driving his RV all around the U.S, listening to music by Frank Sinatra & Puerto Rican Salsa, making his own CD mixes and telling his life stories all while having a cigarette lit up. He loved his dogs "Superman", "Girls" & " Bells" like no other. He enjoyed time with his grandkids and making breakfast with his signature side, a slice of orange or fruit. He loved his Puerto Rican food that his sister Anna made from scratch. You couldn't leave Julio's place without being asked if you wanted an egg cream or any food or snack for that matter.
Julio, also known as "J" by his friends or " Grandpa Grouch " by his grandkids, will be deeply missed by everyone. More stories to commence at his celebration of life.
