Julius passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at his home in Dickinson with his family by his side.

Julius J. Dukart was born on October 8, 1937 in Dickinson, ND to Joe and Regina (Urlacher) Dukart. He grew up near Schefield and then attended school at St. Joseph’s in Dickinson. He began working early in life cutting hay, working a dairy farm, and delivering milk. It was during this time that he met Martha Kadrmas. The two were married on April 26, 1960 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dickinson and were together for over 60 years. The couple were blessed with three sons, Tim, Tom, and Randy.

Julius worked at the Lehigh Briquetting Plant and Diamond Equipment before buying his own welding truck and starting Duke’s Welding. In 1978 he began working at the Little Knife gas plant as the plant welder and retired after 34 years.

In his early years, Julius enjoyed snowmobiling, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He had a true passion for building things. He repaired equipment for countless farmers and neighbors, while also fabricating many custom attachments for his gardening tractors. After retiring, he enjoyed gardening, building birdhouses, and going out to Tom’s welding shop to help with whatever he could. He also loved to drive his tractor, helping friends and neighbors plow their driveways and till their gardens. He could repair, design, and build just about anything.

Before Martha’s passing in 2020, the couple loved to travel. They pulled their camper along the backroads of many states and always had great stories to share. They were also fond of listening and dancing to “Old Time” music. Above all, Julius cherished every minute he got to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and his “peewees”, the great-grandchildren.

Julius was a member of the Eagle’s, St. Pius, St. Anthony, and the German-Hungarian Club.

Julius is survived by his sons, Tim (Cindy) and Tom (Lori) all of Dickinson, and Randy of Winston, OR; six grandchildren, Amy (Josh) Erickson, Kyle Dukart, Karrie (Landon) Leiss, Kelsey Dukart, Emily Dukart, and Lindsey (Ross) Ascheman; nine great-grandchildren with another on the way; brother, Jerome Dukart of Missoula, MT; and sister, Roberta Sand of Belfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Regina; his wife, Martha; his brother, Robert Dukart and wife Cecilia; brothers-in-law, Joe Sand and Eddie Kadrmas; and sister-in-law Marilyn Dukart.

Julius’ family would like to thank the staff at CHI Dialysis unit, Home Instead, Cornerstone Caregiving, and CHI St. Alexius Home Health and Hospice, for the tremendous care they provided for Julius over the last several years.
